Background & Aims: Hypoxia is the most common cause of seizures in the neonatal period. Seizure induced by hypoxia cause permanent increases in excitability of neurons and by changing in activity and synaptic plasticity leads to memory impairment. Crocins (Crocus sativus L.) is a water-soluble carotenoid and is the most important active components of saffron. Most studies indicate that crocin h...
متن کاملNeuronal Cell Reconstruction with Umbilical Cord Blood Cells in the Brain Hypoxia-Ischemia
Background: Brain hypoxia-ischemia is a human neonatal injury that is considered a candidate for stem cell therapy. Methods: The possible therapeutic potential of human umbilical cord blood (HUCB) stem cells was evaluated in 14-day-old rats subjected to the right common carotid occlusion, a model of neonatal brain hypoxia-ischemia. Seven days after hypoxia-ischemia, rats received either saline ...
متن کاملThe Effect of Eight Weeks of Resistance Training Under Hypoxia on Metabolic Parameters and Muscle Tissue Regeneration in Male Wistar Rats with Type 2 Diabetes
Background: Diabetic myopathy is one of the major problems in people with type2 diabetes that knowing its mechanisms can be helpful in controlling and preventing this disease. PAX7 and PGC-1α are two proteins involved in the renewal and metabolism of carbohydrates in skeletal muscle. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of 8weeks of resistance training under hypoxia on the content o...
متن کاملComparative analysis of neonatal and adult rat carotid body responses to chronic intermittent hypoxia.
Previous studies suggest that carotid body responses to long-term changes in environmental oxygen differ between neonates and adults. In the present study we tested the hypothesis that the effects of chronic intermittent hypoxia (CIH) on the carotid body differ between neonates and adult rats. Experiments were performed on neonatal (1-10 days) and adult (6-8 wk) males exposed either to CIH (9 e...
متن کاملEffects of body temperature maintenance on glucose, insulin, and corticosterone responses to acute hypoxia in the neonatal rat.
One of the biggest challenges of premature birth is acute hypoxia. Hypothermia during acute hypoxic periods may be beneficial. We hypothesized that prevention of hypothermia during neonatal hypoxia disrupts glucose homeostasis and places additional metabolic challenges on the neonate. Pups at PD2 and PD8 were exposed to 8% O2 for 3 h, during which they were allowed to either spontaneously cool ...
متن کاملAdrenocorticotropic hormone and corticosterone responses to acute hypoxia in the neonatal rat: effects of body temperature maintenance.
The corticosterone response to acute hypoxia in neonatal rats develops in the 1st wk of life, with a shift from ACTH independence to ACTH dependence. Acute hypoxia also leads to hypothermia, which may be protective. There is little information about the endocrine effects of body temperature maintenance during periods of neonatal hypoxia. We hypothesized that prevention of hypothermia during neo...
